Varios

Hi, I’m Varios

I’m Vaios and I’ve been at DASH Dogs since 2019.

Katerina received a call from a Young Greek guy who was visiting from Athens.

He was driving about 2 hours away from the shelter when he saw a dog get hit by a speeding taxi.

The taxi didn’t stop, …..didn’t even slow down. The dog was me.

The guy that witnessed the hit and run wanted to help and lifted me into his boot.

He agreed to meet DASH Dogs halfway.

Julie and Katerina came to get me and wrapped me in towels.

The kind man who helped me, told them that I had taken the full impact of the car to my head.

It was the middle of the night and all the vets were closed, but we had a telephone consultation with one of the regular DASH Dogs vets as it was such an emergency.

I was given emergency steroids.

I couldn’t stand and my head kept flopping forwards.

Katerina and Julie didn’t think I would make it through the night.

Julie took me to her caravan and she sat with me all night because she didn’t want me to die alone.

It was a long night for us both!!!

I didn’t die, I made it through.

There is no logical explanation, as such as to why I survived, but survive I did.

I had been hit by a speeding car and whilst my bones were not broken, I had severe head trauma.

The DASH Dogs team waited to see if I would start to display signs of neurological damage and took me to the vets regularly for testing.

Amazingly, I recovered my mobility naturally and began to eat and grow stronger.

Today, I am still here and I’m as happy and healthy as I’ll ever be!

My head tilts to one side slightly, but I can move it and am not in any pain.

I understand my routine, I know and recognise the volunteers (I LOVE humans!!), I understand some commands and have made loads of doggy friends!

I am sometimes a little slow (are we not all sometimes?) but I have a great quality of life.

I need a really special person to come along and adopt me and I hope that one day I will have a home to call my own.

Until such a time, I will be staying here at DASH Dogs.

I expect it will be quite a while before I get a family of my own, if ever, but I don’t mind- I’m very happy here.

In the meantime, do you think you could help these humans that saved me with my care?

By sponsoring long-term DASH Dogs residents like me, you will be helping feed and care for me and changing the lives of every dog that comes to DASH Dogs for help, love and shelter!
